UPDATE: Truck Crashes at Barnegat Shop; Injuries Reported
Minor injuries following three-car accident, according to police
An 84-year-old Barnegat woman has been issued a summons for failing to yield the right of way following a multi-car motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 9 and West Bay Avenue yesterday.
Barnegat police said around 2:15 p.m., a 2004 Honda Civic operated by Mary Ross, of Barnegat was traveling north on Route 9 when she made a left turn in front of a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck that was headed southbound on Route 9. The pickup truck was operated by Richard Calkins II, 31, of Little Egg Harbor.
Calkins's vehicle was forced off of the roadway by the impact and struck the Bay Avenue Antiques building at 349 South Main Street, damaging the building.
Ross's vehicle spun after the collision and struck a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu being operated by Kim McAllister, 63, of Manahawkin. McAllister's car had been traveling northbound on Route 9 behind Ross's vehicle.
Ross, Calkins, and a 23-year-old passenger from McAllister's vehicle were all transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.
Ross was issued a summons for failure to yield the right of way at an intersection.
The Bay Avenue Antiques building was inspected by representatives of the Barnegat Construction Office and was found to be structurally sound, police said. The building remained open and businesses were unaffected.
Barnegat police, fire, and emergency medical personnel all responded to the scene.

I think that everyone should be retested for their drivers license after the age of 75! That's pretty scarry! There are tons of drivers on the road that shouldn't be!
