so it will cost us $113k to find out how much it will cost? I think we could hire an engineer at an annual cost of about $113k...hope our well paid business administrator works hard to get some of the fed funds...

If we already have an estimate from Birdsall, why is it necessary to get a second opinion at this cost. It amazes me that it will cost us 1/4th of the original build cost to find out what it will cost us to repair. It seems this town can find a way to spend our tax dollars faster and less productively than any place that I have ever heard of. Why don't we just have a bonfire at the former dock with our tax dollars. We of course need to set aside enough to cover the hot dogs and buns. Of course we could raise the tax rate to cover them.

just make it a bay beach and be done with it....no electric..no plumbing...beach badge revenue to cover the cost of life guards...and very little if any maint. needed...less tax impact on the town....treasure Larry? love washing my car everytime i drive through the mud lot...that's why i won't go...

Balance of power on the committee changed, but it appears that much of the nonsense remains the same. $113K to our new engineering firm to investigate the scope of repairs is awfully hard to justify. Looks like the Dems will try to waste our money as much as the GOP did they were in control.

If the Democrats want to distinguish themselves from the Republicans they replaced, then they will rescind this political payback contract before it costs us any real money. There is plenty of money for political contractors to make in government for necessary township services already. It doesn’t make much sense for the new committee to scrutinize every penny of the budget with a fine tooth comb if the new committee members are going to let their political-supporting contractors run the township. Let’s not turn Barnegat into a Dem-Gilmore-style operation and take advantage of any chance to hoodwink the public by using an emotional event like the hurricane recovery. It would seem to me that our very much hands-on quarter-of-a-million-dollar-a-year business administrator is up to snuff on the first dock work study and is in the best position to advise the political contractor who ends up getting the dock contract on any possible savings or improvements. Let’s use the resources we have on hand already before spending township money buying duplicate help and services. FYI: we have township employees who know how to cut grass and other landscaping skills so we don’t need to hire for outside landscaping services either.

Recreation should be paid for by fees charged for its use. Other area towns require beach badges for their swimming ponds and other beaches. Barnegat should charge enough to cover maintenance and lifeguard costs. Keep in mind that a large percent of those using the beach are from Waretown or other nearby communities. Let them help cover costs..

The Barnegat town docks and gazebo are an important land mark for the town. The recreational value is very high except during high tides when you can not even drive in there. What we need in Barnegat is a town park, a place with open fields for fireworks, carnivals and town celebrations. A location with a lake, jogging trails, snow sledding hills, picnic benches that is centrally located. Oh wait there is such a place, The old shoreline pit. It has everything. Why not allocate monies to something we the residents can use even at high tides.
