Barnegat Goes Out to Bid on Dock Work

Rebuild slated by Memorial Day.

Barnegat Township is going out to bid for various work that need to be done to rebuild the municipal dock, and it is looking possible that the dock will be rebuilt by Memorial Day weekend, according Township Administrator David Breeden.

Breeden noted at the Committee Meeting Monday that the township engineer has put together a proposal to put out to bid, specifically encompassing materials, structural work, and bulkhead repair at the dock, which was heavily damaged during Sandy.

Biddig would begin on March 14, and "we expect a quick turnaround," and to award the contracts on Monday, March 18.

Breeden said as was initially done with the dock, "we are attempting to do a majority of the work with in house Public Works personnel."

Breeden also stated that he was confident that the Turf field on Lower Shore Rd. would be finished. Now, they have to rip it up and send it to the dumps at a high cost.
He has no credibility.

Belmar boardwalk estimated bid is now over a $1.4 over
original ... apparently their administrator made some mistakes
on style ... Birdsall was involved with the structure ...
word was they changed the style to heringbone board design.
so much for smart use of FEMA money ... FEMA stated they
will not cover over charges that involved design style ...
engineering firm claims the increase in metal clips and
superstructure "not cosmetic increases" ...
sounds suspect to me ... there are winners and there
are losers ??? Guess who loses on this deal???

It will be interesting to see what this costs in the end, but I'm looking forward to having the dock back.

General Accountability Office report shows "AshBritt had co-mingled toxins and
chemicals with other non-poisonous debris, the results were that their work had
resulted in two huge superfund sites in Louisiana.
Sandy has produced millions of tons of debris, some stacked as high and the length
of a football field. At this point more than 200 sites are scattered across the state (NJ). Attempts have been made to obtain inspection reports (which are a major rule
for the handling, transporting and management of any such materials). Jeff Tittle of Sierra has asked and not received the reports ... state must show that this contractor
has not done the same things they did in Louisiana, there is no evidence that they are doing anything different ... state officials are complaining about Tittel's partisan remarks the day before the hearing ... YEAH .. and the GOP is a clean as the blinding sand??? Pressure must be put on Christie and his gang -- towns who signed on with the no-bid contractors ...
