Barnegat Teen Charged With Arson
A 15-year-old resident of Barnegat set the brush fire in Settlers' Landing, police said.
A Barnegat teen was charged with third-degree arson for intentionally setting fire in the wooded area behind Spar Court in the Settlers' Landing section of the township, police said.
Detective Maryann Cirulli handled the investigation and charged the juvenile on May 1, police said.
"The suspect was identified with information developed from a witness," said Lt. Keith Germain of Barnegat Township Police.
The fire on April 19, which started at about 4:30 p.m. behind the Lillian M. Dunfee School on Barnegat Boulevard, close to the Spar Court cul-de-sac, caused no damage to property and no injuries, and burned about 1,000 square feet of woodland, police said.
Barnegat Volunteer Fire Company called in the New Jersey Forest Fire Service to assist in putting out the flames, and the fire was extinguished "within minutes," according to Gary Brown, president of the Volunteer Fire Company.
Police said the case is now pending action in juvenile court.

I was wondering what happened with that. I remember driving by and thinking it had to be intentional. Probably a little kid playing with matches.
