Months of Work Brings LBI's 'Queen City' Back To Life

LBI's family-oriented south-end town.

Although much work remains to be done, particularly in the Holgate section, months of rebuilding efforts following Sandy have helped bring many popular attractions in Long Beach Island's Queen City, Beach Haven, back to life, just in time for summer 2013.

Beach Haven has a vast collection of shops and restaurants than much of the rest of LBI, as well as big attractions such as the Fantasy Island arcade and a Thundering Surf Water Park, making it a popular vacation and day-trip destination. The borough stretches from 12th Street on the north end to Nelson Avenue on the south end.

Beach badges: Seasonal badges are $30 until June 28 and $40 starting June 23. Weekly badges are $20; daily badges are $5. Children 12 and under, adults 65 and over and active duty military personnel can use the beach for free. The 2013 beach badge order form is available online. The borough hall beach badge office is now open, and is located oceanside at Centre Street. Hours are Friday and Monday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; SATURDAY 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; SUNDAY 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Snacks are permitted on the beach as long as trash is cleared.

Surfing is permitted in areas marked by a black and white checkered flag; these locations may change depending on ocean conditions.

Parking: Street parking, plus public parking at Bay Village shopping area on the bayfront between 9th Street and Taylor Avenue.

Bathrooms: Bay Village, end of Center Street and at Pearl Street and Bay Avenue.

Food and drink: Picnicking is not allowed.

Really.... And what about the hundreds and hundreds of residences that are gutted and no where near completion... And what about the 80 year old couples, widows and widowers caving in the upstairs of their homes with only a hot plate or microwave for cooking, as they grew weary of being displaced... And, what about all the residents who are still fighting with their Insurance companies to get the money rightfully deserved. REALLY, LBI is back??? Why don't we report what is really going on???

Because you and the the 80 year olds, and anyone else that may be struggling are being swept under the rug for tourist dollars. That is the priority. Sad, but true.
