Christie Coming To Long Beach Island Thursday
Governor visiting as part of “Endless Summer of Tax Relief: A Conversation at the Jersey Shore” tour
Gov. Chris Christie will visit residents in the Bayview Park pavilion in Long Beach Township on Thursday, according to Mayor Joseph Mancini.
Mancini, speaking at the Board of Commissioners meeting Friday, said the visit will be informal. The event will take place near 68th Street, and will likely occur in the afternoon.
Christie has visited Manasquan and other spots duirng his “Endless Summer of Tax Relief: A Conversation at the Jersey Shore” tour.
The Christie administration said the tour is a call-out for "Corzine Democrats to stop holding tax relief hostage and urge the legislature to continue the New Jersey Comeback."
In a release, he said state officials need to provide bipartisan leadership "by delivering tax relief to our citizens, making our state more competitive and allowing us to put more New Jerseyans back to work."

LBI, please put the heat to this man over his massive commuter taxes. He is directly responsible for one (the 87.5% Port Authority toll hikes) and indirectly for the other (the 50% Turnpike Authority hikes, which he allowed to take effect without putting up a fight). He is clearly way out of touch with the average working man, just like every other Governor this state has had in the three decades that I've been keeping track of politics. Hopefully next year we'll be rid of him, and he'll be replaced with someone who isn't a Trenton insider or party establishment hack.

NOT TRUE.
Christie and NY Gov. Cuomo reached a compromise to effect a lower increase than originally proposed on NJ-NY toll hikes, and Christie continued to rail (pun intended) against them. Now, those hikes may be reconsidered in court.
As for the Turnpike-Parkway hikes, those were part of the wording in the bonding agreement sealed by our darling former gov, Jon Corzine, who should be in jail right now for misappropriating or temporarily "losing" $1.2 billion of investors' money in MF Global. Instead, Corzine is bundling donations for Obama.
Christie is the best governor NJ has had in a very long time. I hope to work for his re-election next year!!!

Ann, that was political theatre. Corzine did the exact same thing with the Turhpike Authority: feign outrage, then agree to the still outrageous (but seemingly reasonable by comparison) toll hikes that they really wanted all along. Besides, have you seen the toll hike schedule that's now in place? It amounts to an 87.5% hike over the old rate once it's completely phased in! If Christie were truly a man of the people, he would have told them to take their toll hikes and stick them where the sun don't shine. He's just like any other Governor: appoints his friends to this wasteful patronage pit, and gives them everything that they want, like toll hikes to cover up their ineptitude at managing money.

I will go back to a question that Ronald Reagan asked the voters of the USA to consider before the Presidential Election of 1979-1980. He asked us, if we were better off in 1979 then we were 3.5 years earlier when Jimmy Carter first took office as President. Most of us were not. Thus, in my view the current question is are the majority of citizens in the State of New Jersey better off now than they were when Governor Christie took office several years ago? While, I was never a big-time Jon Corzine supporter, all I can say is that the vast majority of citizens that I know in New Jersey (including myself) are worse off now than when Governor Christie took office. The unemployment lines are longer, and our current Governor has continued to give breaks to the most wealthy citizens of New Jersey. The so-called "Middle Class" has been hit hard. As far as his statements about the "New Jersey Comeback" to me it remains invisible to my eyes.

Let's not forget the thousands of votes George Gilmore bragged about
to engineer the CC win, "TO PUT CC OVER THE TOP" ... the political machine must be stopped ... I have predicted their is a current to appoint Henry Mancini, a councilman in Stafford Township as mayor ... unfortunately John Spodofora may
decide to resign ... enjoy his well earned retirement and get out of the fray?!
This would circumvent voters electing OUR mayor ... ballot situation??
Two Mancini's in two of the areas largest townships... I think NOT.
Politics is a dirty mess and when a party can run things as they have
many many questions arise over who is really running things ...
of the nearly 700K residents in Ocean County a mere 100 or so politicians
are running us into debt ... in ten years many budgets have grown to
an unsustainable amount ... ever count all the Sheriff Public Notices in
the Press???
I will try to get there and ask why he has not really done much about
the double-triple dipper politicians with many stacked pensions ...
face it Ocean County was designed to be a magnet for seniors who
since retiring over the last 10-15 or 20 years can no longer afford
New Jersey ... 2001 I called for a state wide PROPERTY TAX REVOLT ...
When are folks going to wake up and vote the incumbents OUT!!!

I have been a Resident of Lacey Township for the past nearly 30 years. Mr. Gilmore and his so-called Pals, received a solid wake-up call over the past few years, when the 5 Member All Republican Governing Body of Lacey, ended up seeing 2 Democrats elected to it. The electorate of Lacey finally woke up and realized that a One Party Governing Body was becoming a real mess for Lacey. Although, the new Dem's are still the minority by a 3-2 vote, spending and hiring practices are now being questioned in Lacey Township.

"Just" think - perhaps that "rich" person - whose income often reflects $$ that goes to hiring employees - will see the 10 percent savings as an encouraging sign of NJ's economy and expand his/her business. That could mean a job or a raise for someone down the road.

Just N. Observer, the tax cut has to be universal so no matter what percent, the people who make more will get a larger break. I don't make much money at all but I hate when people say millionaires should be taxed more. They worked for (for the most part) their money so why should they be treated differently than any other person? Also, saying you're less off now because of Christie isn't exactly true. Corzine set in motion a lot of the issues facing us now that Christie is trying to remedy.
JD
11:18 am on Tuesday, July 24, 2012
DevilsFan609-While, I respect your right to your opinion, however all I can say is that I am far worse off now that Christie is in the Governor's Seat. Unemployment has risen drastically during his reign. As a state, we have lost ground. Take a look at the comparisons between NJ and Connecticut, and you will see the truth. I will not believe the Governors "Spin" on things. NJ is not in the midst of a so-called "Comeback". Look at the data and statistics and your will discover he is not telling us the truth.
And of course, he wants to give the individuals of the State of N.J. a 10% tax-break, of which he simply does not have the dollars to pay for. State Revenues are not going well at all. His predictions are far, far off. Why did the Governor of New Jersey wish to bring about this 10% State Tax Break prior to August of 2012? The answer is rather simple, because he wanted to give a speech at the Republican National Convention stating that he had done so. Wrong approach Governor Chrisite! He needs to stop his fibbing we simply cannot afford the cut right now.
Just N. Observer
1:32 pm on Tuesday, July 24, 2012
Devilsfan609, It does not have to be "universal" as you put it. The 10% tax cut can be tiered so the truely needy can benefit from this proposal. I am not wealthy nor poor but the whole idea behind Christie's supposed theory is recovery, right? Who needs a chance to recover more then those who are suffering? The wealthy have managed long before Christie came into office. It just seems funny which direction the money gets steered in. Certainly not where it is needed!!! Unemployment, Foreclosures, Foodbanks, try being a member of these growing groups! Still think Christie's proposed tax break is fair for all New Jersey?

Barry,
Relax. I think you're misconstruing MY comment. I was referring to all of the comments prior to mine, not specifically yours. I never implied that you or anyone else here was a registered or otherwise republican, nor did I speculate as to who YOU voted for. I was merely wondering why, or how, do we (Southern Ocean County) keep electing republicans to represent us in state, county and district offices if the majority of the people voicing their opinions here seem to be against him and his party's views. The lesser of 2 evils is still evil, and unfortunately we need an entire re-vamping of the system(s) to address that problem. Have you heard of / looked at the Justice Party?
Even if you are the most right-wing conservative intolerant republican I wouldn't want to cross paths with, I'm happy you at least have the sense to call him out on being a ignorantly stubborn unhealthy fat slob because those aren't characteristics we should be condoning or promoting any more in this country.

Mr. Christie's veneer is wearing thin. His thug-like style as if he were a Sopranos-wannabe has exposed him as just another loudmouth who talks much but produces little.
As others point out, are we in NJ better off than we were when he toppled Corzine? A drive around area towns answers that question. Foreclosed homes, public works projects delayed, cancelled or done by low-bid contractors so they fall apart fast.
Christie has done little to smash the Boss System that has held NJ in a vice-grip for ages. Perhaps that is his most blatant failure.

Back a few years ago, when C. Christie was the new Governor of NJ, and Connecticut elected a new Governor, our new Governor made a comment related to jobs and corporations moving from Connecticut to New Jersey. The new Connecticut Governor increased the taxes on big business and millionaires that resided and set-up shop in Connecticut. Governor Christie was quoted as saying that he would be waiting at the Border of N.J. to welcome these big-businesses and millionaires as they moved from Connecticut to New Jersey. Based on a report that appeared in the Newark Star Ledger last week, just the opposite has taken place. The Connecticut Unemployment rate has dropped quite a bit, while NJ's has risen. When asked about Governor Christie's Comment, the Governor of Connecticut simply took the high road and said that it was obvious that Governor Christie's Comments proved to be incorrect in the long-term. When asked to respond to this, Governor Christie and his spokesperson, Mr. Drewniak had no comment. I guess that the Governor was caught with his pants down.
