County Offers Flu Vaccine

Local sites include Stafford today, and other sites in coming weeks.

The Ocean County Health Department will offer influenza vaccinations in Manahawkin today.

The county has earmarked $100,000 for its annual flu shot program.

Immunizations against influenza and pneumonia have been distributed throughout the county this month, and local sites include: the Fawn Lakes Clubhouse, 6 Sycamore Road, in Manahawkin on Oct. 26; the Ocean Acres Community Center, 489 Nautilus Drive, Manahawkin, on Nov. 15; and the Brighton at Barnegat, 35 Brighton Rd in Barnegat on Nov. 20.

Flu and pneumonia immunizations are $20 for everyone except those with non-HMO Medicare Part B coverage and are available in three options for those who are not allergic to eggs: a standard vaccine, the most common given, for those 6 months old or older; an intradermal shot, specifically for those 18-64, and a "high dose" immunization designed for those 65 and older, who are considered among those at the highest risk for severe complications if they get the flu.

Vaccinations typically start at 10 a.m. For more information or specific dates, visit the county Health Department's website.

There is a greater risk of Alzheimer's after getting repeated flu shots.
It creates a build up of aluminum and mercury which contribute to Alzheimer's.
