These counts are laughable. I know hundreds out in Point Beach and Toms River alone. JCP&L is a joke. Really wish the government would step in and penalize them for this unacceptable performance. Stop being REACTIVE and start being PROACTIVE.

I find it hard to believe there are only 160 customers without power in Ocean County. I know plenty of neighborhoods in Brick, Point and Silverton that aren't red tagged and don't have power, yet this is what JCP&L is reporting. How can they get away with this?? I do commend Point Patch for investigating the issue. At least someone is doing something!!

Really???? Are Brick residents aware that the utility company is requesting the owner's to apply for a DCN or DCR and hire professional electricians at $150.00 to evaluate their gas meters and pass inspection in order to have their power turned on? How about this. Stop paying your utility bills until forced to and let the utility company experience cash flow issues. When contacted notify them the check will be coming tomorrow afternoon and continue the practice until its absolutely necessary to pay.

Baywood, Mandalay & Shore Acres does not have power yet and we were told they don't know when we will get it. There are 100's of homes in this area. To say Brick only has 10 homes out is outrageous! If this is what JCP&L is telling the BPU and Governer...they are lying thru their teeth!

Was in Silverton & Green Island today. Awful lot on generators running and the residents belongings, appliances, flooring, drywall and insulation at there curbs was heartbreaking. A friend today, finally got to get a bus ride to Chadwick Beach on the barrier island. He said there is no more Ortley Beach.

The entire end of Drum Point Road in Brick is without power. This article needs to be corrected.

My place back on the water is Shore Acres should not be sent power so I understand them not turning on the power but the house I'm staying at on Spark just a few blocks from my place is fine. No water came anywhere near here although we remain without power.

If it's easy to cut power to those who don't pay their bills then why not cut those who had water damage and leave the rest who were untouched and then turn on the circuit.

Seems too easy to me and it's only a matter of time before the residents take the issue to the doorstep of the governor and JCPL.

How are the remaining power outages not the top news or breaking news on this site?

A quickie inspection would be to drive around at night and see which houses are lit up by generatiors (which means, for the most part, the electric is safe) especially if it appears the entire household is powered (via back feeding the circuits via generator) and turning those folks back on? Rocket science??? Hardly. Do something for crying out load! If the house is black with a pile of debris out front, then investigate further (if need be), but for the obvious, use common sense. Our house is without power, but being back fed by the generator and is lit up, including (very visible from the outside) TV's and various lights on, which means, we're good to go -- so light us up here! Come on already!!!!!

every person who has not been restored, and yes there are at very least 850 people still in brick without power, me being one in the baywood section which is completely dark, should NOT pay our bills for a few months....jcpl is a joke....wish there was a way to take them down...i have stock in them and will be selling it when the market opens tomorrow...i only keep GOOD companies in my portfolio, JCP&L does not fit that description....

I just loaned a generator to someone in Shore Acres. There are LOTS of houses without power just in that area. From what I'm told inspectors came around to see if people's breaker panels were submerged. Are they going to keep the entire neighborhood dark until everyone's panel is replaced if need be?

I hope people aren't back-feeding their panels without disconnecting from the incoming line. That can only cause more problems.

You all think that its just as easy as flippin a switch? I feel for all you people without power, but you have to know that what they are doing is for the good of all... it 3 homes have meters under water and the next 5 don't and they flip the switch there goes a major fire...Just happened in Bayville...it only takes one house to have a short and if its tied to all the other homes and they flip the power on Boom goes all the homes. Every house is tied into each other. Its just not as easy as you think. And really you think Christie is purposely NOT powering your homes ? Be real here... Rome wasn't built in a day. And those of you lucky enough to have your power back on and have a generator , why not lend it out to another family that isn't as fortunate as you, like Chris just did.

I guess this will sound silly and I admit, I don't know the answer, so maybe someone can educate me here: If they can turn off a single home for non-payment, why can't they turn each home on individually? In other words, for example, if there are, hypothetically, 50 homes on one grid/switch, why couldn't they disconnect service to each house individually, like they do when payments are not made, inspect those 50 homes, and turn them back on one-by-one as they are deemed safe?

The ironic part is I personally do not believe the outages, whether they were brief or still going on today, are his fault. Just noted that he made a prediction that did not come to pass. News12NJ was referring to it as "the governor's deadline." I truly hope all are restored soon. I'm hearing stories from people that are heartbreaking and I'm sure we all just want it to end.

I like Christie but am concerned about his lack of management skills. No, it's not his fault FEMA turned out to be another way to steal money from We the People, but surely by now we should have coastal building codes in place. (Xerox NC and Florida.) Some people seem to be getting building permits in an effort to patch up things as they were in an effort to avoid yet again building to hurricane standards. No ten foot pilings for them! As to the power company, I am on the water and can see ten miles down the Bay and last night I noticed the little power in Bayville and even the usually very well cared for Lacey, had been cut back even further than it was a week ago. All I could see were a few generator powered buildings and 9 or so probably Route 9 street lights - or possibly GSP entrance lights.

The President of the power company ought to be replaced now and the Governor needs to at least accept email from we who are in the cold and dark rather than spreading those emails automatically to the departments which are the most guilty. The governor doesn't seem to want to hear from us and that is a bad sign and shows in part why there is no leadership of zillions of civil "servants" who in my section of Bayville have done nothing while they earn 136% more than the general population. And all that OT is building them up while they watch us crumble.

all i know is as I type this lying in my bed in Seawood Harbor...I'm freezing cold and my little generator can hardly power my space heater to make a puff of heat never mind get my bedroom to a livable temp. As the temperature drops, pipes are going to start bursting and the remains of our already broken houses will be reduced to an even less livable state. Ironically, I noticed today my JCP&L autopay went through on my bank account...they didn't seem to miss a beat on their billing, sorry that they can't spend the money to have workers on the job 24/7 to restore power after 15 days. It will take someone elderly freezing to death in their home before anything will be done to motivate these clowns.

I am in Silverton in NJ. I have been calling JCP & L for the past 5 days constantly and all they tell me is they are working on it. I cannot get any straight answers. I have been without power since Sandy hit almost 3 weeks ago. I'm at my wits end. Does anybody know if anything else I can do? I have called Governor Christie's office, and NJ Commission of Utilities. Nothing is working.
