Favorites: Marchioni's Wins for Best Local Italian

Readers voted on top Italian restaurants and pizzerias in Barnegat and Manahawkin

UPDATE: The polls are closed! Marchioni's Pizza and Pasta edged out Spiaggia e Luna among Barnegat Patch readers. Happy eating!

--

This week, we're asking our loyal readers to choose their favorite Italian restaurants and pizzerias in Barnegat and Manahawkin.

It's the first of a series of week-long polls of your favorite places, and for our inaugural readers' choice vote, we're focusing on something most New Jersey residents feel pretty strongly about: who's got the best pizza, pasta, chicken parm or other Italian staple?

We've got a list of local eateries below. Just cast your vote, and then tell us why it's your favorite in the comments section. If you think we're missing the best place in town, let us know in the comments so we can add it to the poll. Voting will be closed at 9 a.m. Friday.

Our picks: Marchioni's Pizza and PastaSpiaggia E LunaVinnie's Italian Restaurant PizzeriaEsposito's Pizzeria and RestaurantVillagio RestaurantJoey's Pizza and PastaGabriella's Pizzeria and Restaurant and LaGuardia's Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria.

Stay tuned for more polls to come!

Editors Note: Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results and reviews on Patch Places. Please vote only once per survey, per Patch.

Wow - no favories listed...but then again whenever I eat at one of our local favorites I am reminded of the end of Goodfellas when Henry says "I ordered spaghetti marinara and I got egg noodles and ketchup"

Villagio is far from Italian food. Just plain diner food under another name. If it is from a can or jar they have it. Terrible.

Been to most of the Italian locations, unfortunately the best can only be found in Italia. I base this on having traveled north to south and east to west for + 40 years to that country. Italian food for each region/province and locality is to enjoy and discuss to treasure and understand the love that is taken into making a meal that is served one plate at a time. Along with homemade pasta, salami, vino, cafe and grappa or lemoncino/lemoncello.

Gabriella's has a great fresh pie! Their crust is my fav because it breaks when I fold it but still stays intact (if that makes sense to pizza lovers) and I always get a good bubble or two :)

Try Frankies on Rt. 9 in Bayville.

A good feed for a reasonable price.

Tried Frankies once . It was overpriced and the food was bad. Some sort of tasteless pink sauce on everything. The lasanga was thin and filled with some sort of meat paste. Service was bad. We'll ever go back.

It's the corrupt Barnegat way. Even when it comes to pizza! If the food was free at Spiaggia e Luna, I wouldn't eat it. There is no way that this poll is fair. In the spirit of free speech, you can now remove my post.

Well since I had 2 of my post deleted already I would say ALL votes Spiaggia got are from the same person at the Mirage. You know the 1 person with 3 user accounts that removes my posts because they fear me. Ya gotta love Barnegat, even the pizza vote is rigged.

Spiaggia e luna of barnegat offers a thin crust pie upon request. It is to die for. Their specials menu has something new each week so you never get bored. The atmosphere is warming and the servers make you feel at home. Definitely something to look for at an italian restaurant. Good food, large portions, and that home-like feeling!

The waitress service at Marchioni's is the best, but on the negative side the pasta is always cold, food is average at best and the tabletops could be cleaner, most people do not know quality dining so they should remain afloat. Rule #1 in the restaurant business is that the an owner must be present at all times, absentee ownership will eventually do them in.

Bella Cristina's Manahawkin Rt 72 (rt hand side going towards LBI) is an Italian Restaurant that has a decent 8.99 take out pie. There food is very good and they have a BOGO coupon in the local papers. This used to be Mangeone's on Rt.9 before they moved. When We are up in Bayville we buy 2 Pizzas at Ferrari's ( Rt 9 )and freeze one pie by the slice. The Sawmill in Seaside is good pizza also. I'm a Native NYer and know my Pizza. Spaggia is the closest to John's ( W Greenwich Village) Brick oven Pizza you will find around here.
