Motorcycles, as far as the eye could see, lined the street outside of Kyle McGetrick's home Saturday afternoon, surprising and thrilling the eleven-year-old boy.

One after another, motorcyclists parked their bikes and made their way to his front door.

"We were only expecting to have 100 riders, but we were so amazed to see the huge turnout," said Dee Foster-Lynch, whose son Jimmy is a friend of Kyle's.

Kyle, who has been battling leukemia for seven years, donned a new riding helmet that was presented to him.

The 'Ride for Kyle' was the brainchild of Joe Lichon of JFL Design, who employs Kyle's mom Francine McGetrick.

Lichon said he actually came up with the idea only five days before the actual ride, which started at the Stone Pony in Asbury park with 175 motorcycle riders. Their route took them down the Garden State Parkway towards Barnegat, where more participants joined the cause.

Bikers came prepared with gifts and mementos for Kyle. One bikers presented Kyle with an original picture of a skeleton on a bike dressed in leather and chaps. Another, who gave Kyle a police cap, told him to, 'Hang onto this. It will get you out of trouble one day.'

War veterans presented Kyle with a coin of courage. He also received a wooden box with a shadow picture of a young rider on it.

"It was all very special and moving for everyone there," said Lynch.

The crowd, along with Kyle, moved to Lefty's Tavern, Route 9 in Barnegat, for a donated finger-food buffet.

"I am not surprised by this huge outpouring of support at all," said Foster-Lynch.  "I know the McGetrick family, love them immensly and know that they personify the meaning of love, respect, support, kindness and friendship. It is only natural that they bring this out in others."

I just love this kind of story of people coming together. Hello Barnegat, any body out there got any ideas? You know, like ALL the Towns people coming together.
