MANAHAWKIN POLICE REPORT: Joy riding at the Ocean Acres Country Club

Police arrest two others for shoplifting and a traffic warrant, respectively

 

A 17-year-old has been arrested for driving while intoxicated after he was caught "joy riding" on the grass of the Ocean Acres Country Club, police said.

The boy, who was not named, was operating a 1991 black Toyota pick-up truck near the entrance of Ocean Acres Country club, police said. The grass sustained significant damage.

The driver was arrested on Thursday July 5, at 4:17 a.m. and released to the custody of his father, police said.

An intoxicated juvenile passenger was also arrested after he attempted to flee from the vehicle, and was charged with improper behavior.

Both have a pending court appearance in Stafford Township Municipal with a date set for July 27.

A 46-year-old Little Egg Harbor man has been arrested for shoplifting at Walmart on Route 72, police said.

Edward J. Dion was observed by store security hiding a can of pet carpet powder - as well as a box of pet armor flea agent - under a large bag of pet food in his shopping cart, police said.

Dion, who was arrested on Saturday July 7, was followed to the register where he had the cashier use a handheld scanner on the food while it was in the cart, police said.

Dion then exited the store with the two unpaid items still under the food. He was stopped by security and escorted to an office where police were contacted, police said.

Dion was arrested, transported to police headquarters and later released pending a court hearing in Stafford Township Municipal Court, police said.

Also:  

A 24-year-old Manahawkin man has been arrested on a traffic warrant, police said.

On July 6, at 7:54 p.m., John R. Sprague was arrested on a traffic warrant issued by Stafford Township Municipal Court, police said. Sprague was released after posting the required amount of bail.

This matter is pending a court appearance to be set by Stafford Township Municipal Court, police said.

** 4:17am....17 yr olds..does anyone else see a problem here....PARENTS///where the heck are you...for any old timers who use to listen to WPIX 11 news..every night as it started the phrase " ITS 10pm. do u know where your children are"...its 4:17am..and ur kids are out drunk driving...thank God it was only grass that was destroyed and not a person..Charge the parents too!!!!!!!!!
