Barnegat's watering prohibition will be in effect until Friday at 6 p.m.
A ban has been placed on lawn irrigation that uses Barnegat township water. Due to the storms that came through the area over the weekend, one of the well pumps for the township water supply was damaged, according to Utility Manager Roger Budd.
“The township has five wells to supply water, and the pump on well number five was damaged. We hope to have it replaced by Friday,” Budd said. “This measure is just precautionary in case the temperature rises. We don’t want to put a strain on the water system.”
The water pump was the only item in the water system affected by the storms; the water quality was not compromised in any way, Budd said.
For any questions or concerns, please contact Barnegat Township Utility Department at (609) 698-6185.

1st. & 2nd. line of the story read:
"Barnegat's watering prohibition will be in effect until Friday at 6 p.m.
A ban has been placed on lawn irrigation that uses Barnegat township water."
I thought it was very clear.

And McDonalds And The schools. Now if 1 out of 5 pumps fail that's 20% why is there a 100% reduction?
Really Rodger?
Stupid starts at the head and goes all the way down to the toes!

Not necessarily, since we don't know the pumping capacity of each pump. Not to mention many business like you mention don't depend on city water for irrigation. They have their own wells. Here's a page from the township's general code:
§ 73A-3. Use of private wells; applicability.
"All new nonresidential development properties shall utilize private wells for irrigation and other nonpotable purposes. The requirement that new nonresidential development properties utilize private wells for irrigation and nonpotable purposes
shall not be construed to prohibit new or existing residential properties from utilizing the public water system for irrigation or nonpotable purposes."
Plus, you left out part of the equation. There's a 100% reduction in <lawn> watering. That's not 100% reduction of all water usage. Irrigation is probably 10% of the total usage per year, and maybe 25% from April to October.

If anyone in Barnegat needs extra water for their lawns, I believe buckets of it are still being passed out on the emergency evacuation lane on Rt. 72 West near Neptune Road. While I realize last week's storm was overwhelming, the only true difference was that this time the water level was a bit higher than the traditional experiences usually offer. So goes life in the 9th District.

Oh good, can you provide us with the list? Schools? Shopping centers? If I were Genuardies, McDonalds etc, I'd make a PR ad like Kohls does, (30-40% of their energy provided by solar panels on their rooftops. Mr. Foster maybe you believe that but I'd prefer proof to your statements. After all there's not a lot of transparency in the Barnegat town government. 100% water Ban due to 20% less pumping ability? C'mon Bill, it's the insinuation that's bad, not the water itself. We've had plenty of rain no need to water the grass, but not everyone in town needs a cock and bull story. Three years ago the water dept. played with the water pressures and it cost residents money out of their own pocket. Rodger can verify this. I personally have limited faith in them..
