No Fatalities Found So Far In Seaside Heights Area, Officials Say

Search-and-rescue teams have combed the barrier islands communities since Hurricane Sandy struck, officials say

Hundreds of search and rescue teams have combed Lavallette, Ortley Beach, Seaside Heights, Seaside Patk and South Seaside Park and have found no fatalities connected to Hurricane Sandy, officials say.

Paul Daley, deputy coordinator of the Office of Emergency Management in Toms River, said he doesn't expect the number to change.

Search-and-rescue teams knocked on doors twice and three times at residences on the barrier islands, Daley said. They went door-to-door and marked those locations as they went.

"These rescue teams are professionals. They went room by room multiple times. This was extremely thorough," Daley said.

Contrary to rumor, the A&P supermarket in Ortley Beach has been boarded up since the evacuation more than a week ago, officials say.

Daley said there is still a missing persons situation, but it's unclear whether residents went to stay with their relatives when they evacuated, or did whatever they could to leave.

Daley praised the work of local teams and those assisting from far-away communities. He thanked residents who heeded the evacuation.

"Search and Rescue" means just that....searching to rescue & bring them to safety. "Search and Recovery" is searching to recover bodies...

Oh thank God! Is there a place to let someone know that we have "refugees" staying with us from the barrier island? Please let me know....

Am I mistaken or are everyone of these pictures of the boardwalk? Last I knew noone actually lived on the boardwalk...I would have liked to have seen some houses or our streets. Hopefully our residents and those of the other barrier islands are somewhere safe...Thank God noone was found too late.

Brickgreen Mom...you misunderstood me I live year round in seaside heights and am not as concerned with the boardwalk as I am with how the streets and residents homes are looking. I have not been allowed back into my home for 7 days just to get some thingd that mean the world to me. I don't want to see the devestation of the boardwalk, I want to see things that are still standing and fixable to have hope for my town and neighbors.

i agree Jennifer, i live in SSH too, am anxious to see the streets and such, saw a couple last night on FB, but not too many. There is a LOT of sand in the streets. we won't be returning to live, which saddens me, i hope we will be able to get into town to get our stuff out. i will miss living there. i love my town. We will rebuild.

I don't want to see the devestation of the boardwalk right now, I want to see houses that are still standing and fixable to have hope for my town and neighbors. And if you took the time to read the article there were no fatalities or dead people as you put it found...Praise God.

Please everyone beware of looters. While cleaning up storm damage, people were walking on my neighbors' property to rob her lawn decorations. When confronted, they said it was theirs. They proceeded to go to other properties"checking for stuff". But they were not recognizable nor from our neighborhood. How low can you go?? It is a shame, with all the humanity and volunteerism being done we have degenerates. Thank you to the volunteers at Lacey Methodist church for providing meals and water during a rough weekend cleanup. You are blessed.

NJ gov. (Repub) praised Obama and all the help he's providing -- so much so that Romney people said our gov's effusive praise might have cost Mitt votes! Ichuck, stop trying to politicize this disaster. People, be sure to vote Tuesday.

to everyone concerned about going to SSH this is taken from the towns website:

Island Access
November 5th, 2012 We truly apologize for any bad information out there, but sadly Seaside Heights remains closed to anyone but essential personnel.

We will have a plan by Wednesday (Nov 7th) night that should allow limited access by this Friday (Nov 9th). Take care and sorry for all of our losses.

The pictures on this link, while stirring up emotions, really put into perspective the NJ beaches before and after Hurricane Sandy. I believe we were very fortunate to have the warnings several days before it hit. God knows what could have happened...

Hi Jennifer,
Noticed your name popping up in newspaper articles. It's a shame so little info is coming from the town. WHAT TOWN WOULD RESPOND TO ITS RESIDENTS IN THIS WAY
The city website barely is updated
I own in ssh also. It would be good for all of us to get together and use the media and state to pressure ssh to make it into the town we all want it to be when the rebuilding happens.
This would be a perfect time while Gov Christie and the world is watching.

Some tribes in Sudan and Senegal http://www.coachoutletonlinexc.net/ Coach Factory Outlet have an average height of 6-foot-6, which also happens to be the size of the average NBA player. People in Nigeria, http://www.louisvuittonoutletam.net/ Louis Vuitton Purses Mali and Congo tend to be very big and physical. We need to build a strategy to go into these regions http://www.coachoutletstoreze.com/ Coach Factory Outlet and cultivate the talent through infrastructure and instruction. Not long ago, soccer in Africa was almost http://www.guccibeltsoutletds.net/ Gucci Belts the same way. Anyone in Seaside Heights goin crazy over the SSH mayor statement of "keeping the roller coaster" where it is for tourists revenue
This is crazy
There is an attorney in Toms River that is taking names for those interested in creating a class action suit against SSH.
The town needs to have leaders that wont make it a shit hole. While we still have a chance, we need to get together and protest in order to have this town get on track.
Let's get the state involved
The time is now.
For anyone interested, contact:
nickdetoronto@rocketmail.com
send a pdf pertaining to what needs to be done in SSH.
The poorest quality of life for residents
1)Close bars early 12 pm
2) revitalize the boardwalk
3) end the drunks roaming the streets
4) propose a boardwalk rebuilding plan approved by a real city board made up of Additional panel members.
5) account for all beach fares etc
WE NEED A CHANGE
People- The mayor want s to keep the roller coaster in the ocean. Does that tell you the mentality of this town.

while your at it keep the section 8,s from coming back in and destroying the town. there is no reason why this town can not be made into a decent town now that all the trash ie..junkies pimps hookers dealers gang bangers and low life welfare non working lowest scum of the earth people are gone. dont let them back in period. if that happens seaside might be a nice place again.

whoa fed up and where do you suggest these so called low life hookers go? over the bridge to your neighborhood? and i dont think all of ssh was full of that type of person either.....go up and down rt 37 those motels are full of just released from jail , sect 8 etc

Tim Bucktoo

Careful there Fed Up. With the high unemployment rates, rising taxes and a devastating storm, some of those "welfare lowlifes" as you so ineliquently stated just might be people you happen to know and care about. I happen to agree Seaside Heights needs an administrative cleanup from the top down, but do you really think a class action lawsuit will do anything other than fatten the lawyer's aleady bulging pockets?

As bury Park has done a great job in cleaning up their boardwalk. Maybe Seaside should invoke eminent domain to get rid of all those scum suckers you referred to. That's just what that town does NOT need.

A class action lawsuit would be a statement from the homeowners towards the management of ssh and the deep rooted politics that go on there. The POA meetings are a joke- nothing gets done. The towns people are fed up having drunks and teeny boppers running throughout at all hours. Police barely respond and if they do it is for the fights which bring in revenue.
The class action is simply new rules that obviously the current management doesnt want to bend for.
1) close the bars at 12 not 4
2) ENFORCE NOISE ORDINANCES
3) Enforce building codes and subcodes... .
4) Account for beach fares/ meters and other CASH transations
5) inspect the hotels. OTHER ITEMS
How about creating a business plan and draw in nice restaurants that are open year round
WE NEED TO MAKE A STATEMENT NOW ,,,,,NOT TOMORROW.
Otherwise we will be staring at a roller coaster in the ocean. This town has little vision. Make it into
