Police: Two Arrested in Relation to Credit Card Fraud
Businesses' surveillance assist in the arrest
Two men were charged for allegedly stealing a Forked River resident’s wallet and using the victim’s credit cards.
A resident of Steuben Avenue reported that during the early morning hours of Aug. 17, his wallet was stolen from within his vehicle, which was parked in the driveway.
The credit cards were used that day at several businesses throughout Ocean County, including Best Buy, Walmart and Ron Jon Surf Shop. Nearly $2,000 in purchases were made.
Surveillance videos from the businesses assisted the police in the arrest of Edward Vanderbilt, III, 19, of Barnegat and Stephen Davies, II, 19, of Beach Haven Gardens.
Vanderbilt was observed on video allegedly making purchases and was charged with burglary, theft of credit cards, and fraudulent use of credit cards, police said. He was sent to Ocean County Jail with bail set at $35,000.
Davies was charged with receiving stolen property and released on a summons.
A 16-year-old male from Manahawkin also accompanied Vanderbilt and Davies who has yet to be charged.
