Runyan Announces Oyster Creek Impact Meeting

To be held Sept. 26

Column as submitted by Rep. Jon Runyan:

I write to cordially invite you to a public meeting that I am hosting along with Lacey, Ocean, and Barnegat Townships about the regional impact of the closure of the Oyster Creek power generation facility.  The meeting will take place on Sept. 26, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lacey Township Middle School, 660 Denton Ave., Forked River, NJ 08731. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss potential options and opportunities moving forward.

Officials from local, county, and State government, businesses and business organizations and members of the public are encouraged to attend to help us begin this important discussion.  The Meeting will include speakers, including local officials, professional engineers and planners from Birdsall Services Group, and representatives from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the Office of Planning Advocacy.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Jeff Brabant of my staff at 202-225-4765.  Oyster Creek is a major provider for both jobs and electricity for Ocean County, and the planning process must begin in order to ensure a smooth transition to a post Oyster Creek economy and community.

Sincerely,

Jon Runyan
Member of Congress

Jon Runyan is stacking up to be more of the same. It's nice to see him standing for reelection but what the heck has he been doing for the last two years?

Voting lock-step with his party, right or wrong. That's why I'm running. So much for his having an "independent" voice. The meeting was set up by Birdsall, and he spoke on a Wednesday night about preserving jobs in Lacey - the next day, Christie announced the location of the three new plants to replace Lacey. Sniff around "Birdsall" and "elections" - hope he washed his hands afterward.

John's not a bad guy to have a beer with, I'm sure...but that's about it.

Although I haven’t been a big supporter of Congressman Runyan, I will give him credit for scheduling his town hall meetings at a time when almost all of his constituents have an opportunity to attend and participate. Apparently Congressman Runyan is confident he has something to offer and doesn't need to hide behind a song and dance act staged to avoid dealing with some of the real concerns of his constituents. By Thursday evening, Congressman Runyan will have scored at least a +1 for being openly available to the public and Governor Christie will have added another -1 to reach an astonishing -91. It seems we may have elected the wrong Republican to the wrong job.
