Will the weather keep them away?
Every summer weekend, the traffic on Route 72 is typically bumper-to-bumper and moving at a crawl between the Garden State Parkway and the Causeway into Ship Bottom.
Typically, you should anticipate up to a half hour, or more, to travel between LBI and the Garden State Parkway. Mill Creek Road is typically backed up to where it meets East Bay Avenue and East Bay Avenue leading down to Marsha Drive, and the last light before the Causeway is usually backed up.
Stafford Police are on duty on the side roads, such as Jennings Road and Mill Creek, to ensure vehicles are proceeding safely through these residential neighborhoods.
What are you seeing? Send us your photos and let us know in the comments.

When my wife Cheryl and I worked on the Island at Mary Allen Realty we would typically leave Cedar Run by 8:45 to avoid this mess every summer. We would sit in the office on L.B. Blvd and watch the cars first leaving from the weeks that were finished for the bennies, and then the opposite slowly building, heading in for the new comers. Don't miss that part of the summer at all. Miss all our friends now that we are living in Florida!!!

Thanks very much for that, Mr. Hulse. I lived in Manahawkin for five years and I can totally relate.

If you are heading to LBI for the weekend, you must leave early on Saturday. Be on the parkway in Ocean County by 9:00 am, or leave later in the day around 4:00 pm. Summer rentals run from Sat. to Sat. Many people leaving and coming. Saturday is the worst day to come to LBI. Sunday is a little better.

My family lived on Bay Ave when it was the only way to LBI and cars would just sit...and we have seen our share of traffic on 72 on Saturdays heading east, and Sundays heading west. Recently it seems to be more congested between the Parkway and Marsha Dr. and not just on Saturday and Sunday. Its Fridays and even earlier than usual on Saturdays.

That map of 72 is wrong between Rt.9 & the bridge. Has E. Bay Ave. south of 72. Typical Patch, no proof read, amature writers.

Don't criticize.... you spelled amateur wrong and proofread is one word.

Let's be honest, Stafford police are on side roads to write tickets.
