As crews work up and down Long Beach Island to get the beach ready for Memorial Day - Ship Bottom, which serves as the island's gateway - is the hub of it all.
With a total area of 1 square mile, Ship Bottom has a Waterfront Park, several recreational areas, and beautiful beaches. The borough also offers antique and gift shops, art galleries and fine dining.
Beach badges cost $30 for a seasonal pass until May 31; $40 for a seasonal pass starting June 1; $20 for weekly pass; and $5 for a daily pass. Senior badges are $10 and are sold at Borough Hall.
Badges are required starting June 15. Submit a Beach Badge Order Form or buy them at Borough Hall, 1621 Long Beach Boulevard, Ship Bottom, 609-494-2171, ext. 102. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., including Memorial Day.
Lifeguard Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., starting June 15.
Parking: Street parking and no meters.
Restrooms: Borough Hall on 17th street, on the boatramp, and on 15th street, bayside.
Handicap Access: 4th, 8th, 9th, 14th, 15th, 19th, 20th, 21st and 25th streets. BeachWheels are available from Ship Bottom Beach Patrol. Call to reserve in advance, 494-2171 x 116.
