Stafford Man Found Dead; Hurricane Sandy Ravaged House

Man, who was not identified, was 72; water intruded into residence

A 72 year old man was found in his storm-damaged residence Wednesday after stormwater had intruded 18 inches inside, police said.

Stafford Township police did not identify the man late Wednesday, but did say that Hurricane Sandy may have been responsible for his death.

The man lived in the township's Beach Haven West section.

"This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available," police said.

Investigating agencies include the Stafford Township Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutors Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Unit and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Enough, people went door to door in these areas. They knew to leave amd chosed to stay. What more can I say. I guess this will help with evacuations for the next few years at least. You gambled and lost.

You know nothing of this mans situation to even deserve the right to make that statement. At 72 years old this man may not have been in the right mindset to know what was best. Who's to even say this man knew how bad it would be or that he even answered the door for those checking. Knowingly staying in your home yes I agree is 100% the wrong choice, but you have no clue as to that being the case here with this man.

My brother-in-law is a police officer in town - your kids all know him as "Officer Brian", the DARE officer. I know from his posts, and from a friend over in Mystic's personal experience, that they were going door to door to make people evacuate - some folks wouldn't/didn't answer. Whatever the reason the man chose not to leave, he paid a hell of a price. Be thankful that your community has the folks serving it that it does...maybe even consider telling them so.

My heart is saddened by his loss. Many of our older people have gone thru times in their life and feel a need to protect their possessions. Now I will pray for those who speak ill words of this man as you sit in your chair and pass judgment

No matter the choice this man took and why is a sad day for his family and kids... Please stop the negitive comments in respect of them. It is ashame he lost his life but remember people chose to stay to protect their properties from being robbed. This is and was most of their worries. I am saddened by any lose of life no matter how it happens and my thoughts and prayers are with the family... God speed my friend and may you rest in peace.... :(
