Stafford Mayoral Candidate Identified as Victim in Fatal Accident

Accident occurred Saturday on Mill Creek Road.

The man involved in a fatal single-vehicle collision on Mill Creek Road last Saturday has been identified as former Stafford Mayoral Candidate Thomas Litwin.

Stafford Police said Litwin was driving a 1976 Fold Eldorodo motorhome around 7:00 p.m. on Mill Creek Road in front of Bank of America when the motorhome he was driving left the roadway, subsequently crashing into a wooded section.

Police said Litwin had been driving himself to Southern Ocean Medical Center, after experiencing chest pains. Following the collision, he was taken to the hospital and passed away a short time later. Police said the collision did not appear to be a contributing factor in his death.

Litwin was arrested Aug. 17 and charged with selling marijuana to an undercover police officer, as well as other possession charges. Despite the arrest, his name remained on the November ballot, and he received 72 votes.

An acquaintance of Litwin's recalled him as an avid karaoke fan who loved heavy metal music.

"He was a good guy, he always had a smile on his face, and he was a great karaoke singer," said Don Cook, who knew Litwin from karaoke. Cook, owner of Puttin' on the Hits!, said he has been performing karaoke shows at Christopher's Pub in Toms River for about a decade, and Litwin was a regular customer for about two of those years.

Cook recalled that Litwin won the "most original costume" at a Halloween party at the pub two years ago, when he dressed up as Gene Simmons from Kiss.

"He was very entertaining when he sang," Cook said, adding that one of Litwin's favorite songs to perform was God of Thunder.
