Surflight Theatre Re-visits Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber

"I cannot wait for the day when someone asks me, 'Are you Haley Swindal's Grandfather?'" the late George Steinbrenner had said to his granddaughter. 

Today, Haley Swindal is garnering the recognition her grandfather told her she deserved.

The self-proclaimed 'brassy belter', takes on a concert revue at Surflight Theatre in Beach Haven, in "All I Ask of You,",a tribute to famous composer Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, before taking on Broadway head-on in Jekyll & Hyde this summer.

Accompanied by Grace Field, Matthew Myers and Michael Padgett, the quartet tackle some of Broadway's biggest hits from the likes of Phantom of the Opera, Evita and Cats.  

"I think all four of us have different things that we bring," said Field. "For me personally, I'm kind of the legit soprano, so I bring all the high notes, the power. Haley is more of the fierce belter, she's so amazing. And then Matthew is more of the rock kind of guy, he's the hip cool rocker, and Michael kind of mirrors my track, he does more the phantom and Raul, so it's a good balance between the rocker and the legit." 

"All I Ask of You" is a powerful combination of the well-known and the underrated by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. The production brings classics to the forefront in the first act, such as: 'I Don't Know How to Love Him', from Jesus Christ Superstar; 'Music of the Night', Phantom of the Opera; and 'The Argentina Suite'; Evita.  

A lucky treat for anyone attending last Thursday's matinee, the star of the upcoming production of Annie, Amelia Allen, enchanted the audience with a sneak peak by singing a tune from the show.

Immediately after, Field came out and awoke the audience with her stellar voice, reminiscent of her opera days. Juxtaposed next to her soft feminine features, Field ramped up the power and took the audience by storm, demanding attention.  

The show was a mix of powerful ballads and uplifting rock tunes. When all four graced the stage, the audience was met by a wall of beauteous sounds, each actor bringing a key element to the overall show. 

Swindal took the stage in a sleek black cocktail dress with floating curls of fabric cascading down, emitting an ethereal voice from her barely moving body.  

The men were no slackers either. Padgett convincingly owned the role of the phantom while Myers entranced every lady in the audience with his inviting performance of 'And The Money Kept Rolling In,' from Evita. 

"All I Ask of You", a show sustained entirely by music, is not one to be missed. This diverse performance  will have you singing Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's praises as you traipse out of the theater.
