Theatre sustained water damage in the mainstage area, as well as costume and ice cream shops, dressing rooms and marketing area.

Surflight Theatre in Beach  Haven this week received a $10,000 grant from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation for the purpose of the remediation and restoration of equipment lost due to the effects of Sandy.

Ken Myers, Executive Director said in a prepared statement: "We appreciate the support of the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation who responded immediately to our need with emergency post Sandy funding. This kind of prompt support illustrates their ongoing commitment to the arts."

Surflight Theatre’s mainstage, theater seating, costume shop, dressing rooms and marketing office, along with the popular ShowPlace Ice Cream Parlour sustained water damage, and equipment will need to be replaced around the Surflight campus. Nevertheless, the show must go on and the theatre will be announcing its 2013 - 64th Season of "Broadway at the Beach" shortly.

Surflight Theatre is supported by the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. Formed by Robert Rauschenberg in 1990 to promote awareness of the causes and groups close to his heart, activities of the Foundation include managing the artwork, exhibition and scholarship of Rauschenberg as well as the growth of philanthropy programs.

The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation's programs now include the new grant program for artistic innovation and collaboration and direct assistance for the advancement of art.

I enjoyed my first year of summer stock at Surflight under the direction of Joe Hayes. Ann Mulligan and I were roommates and still friends after 51 years. I played Ado Annie in Oklahoma, and did leads in many other shows. We did a new show every week and were paid a big $5 a week and I LOVED IT. I became EQUITY the next year . It was a fabulous experience and I am so happy to see it functioning again.
