Have seen Bruce and the band twenty-some times, but my favorite show will always be the Spectrum in Philly on 09/24/1999. In the midst of the run of shows at the Wachovia Center next door, the band played this lone show at the more intimate Spectrum on Bruce's 50th birthday.
From the opening notes of "Growin' Up," played after a pre-recorded birthday song from Bruce's mom, to "Does This Bus Stop At 82nd Street?," "The Fever" and "Blinded By the Light," it was a show where the band and audience were in sync throughout. Unlike most concert singalongs, which tend to feel forced, the audience completely took over the second half of "Spirit In The Night" without any need for prompting. Since that show, I've seen them perform that song a handful of times, but it has never come close to that night at the Spectrum.
