Two People Injured In Head-On Manahawkin Collision

Mary Watters was transported to Atlanic City Trauma and is currently listed in stable condition, police said

 

A Long Beach Island woman was injured in a head-on colision on Route 9 Friday near Mayetta Landing Road in Manahawkin, police said.

Mary Watters was transported to Atlanic City Trauma and is currently listed in stable condition, police said.

At 2 p.m., a pickup operated by Thomas Newbern of Long Beach Island was traveling northbound on Route 9 when an SUV, operated by Watters, crossed over into the northbound lane.

Newbern swerved to avoid a head-on collision, but Watter’s vehicle contacted the left rear of his pickup, disabling Newbern’s vehicle, police said.

Watters's vehicle continued into a utility pole and came to a final rest in the middle of Route 9. 

\Due to the extend of damage done to Watter’s vehicle, she was extricated by the Stafford Fire Department and transported to Atlantic City Trauma by Stafford EMS, police said.

Watters' passenger was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center for minor injuries. Newbern did not report any injuries at the scene.

The cause of the collision is under investigation by Officer Justin Pascale of the Stafford Police Traffic Unit. Any witnesses are asked to contact 609-597-1189 X8436.
