Victim In Waretown Motorcycle Accident Suffered Through Tragedy

Donald Harrington lost his wife in December

When his motorcycle crashed and killed him Tuesday, Donald Harrington was just months removed from another tragedy that he, and his family, were suffering through.

His wife, Jacqueline M. (Masters) Harrington, 45, of Waretown, died at her home on Dec. 19, 2011, according to Legacy.com.

Jackie Harrington was born and raised in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. and moved to the Lacey Township area in the early 80s, where she met and married her husband, Donald, in 1998, according to the obituary. She resided in Waretown ever since.

Survivors were listed as are "beloved husband of 14 years, Donald" and a  "daughter, Amber."

"Jackie was a wonderful homemaker and mother," the obituary read. "Her profession allowed her to work in many local and shore pubs. Everyone will be sure to remember her generous heart, unbreakable spirit, the warmth of her smile, and the kindness of her soul.

No word on funeral arrangements for Donald Harrington, whose motorcycle struck a 2004 Ford Taurus that was attempting to make a left turn, police said.

Harrington was thrown from his bike and struck an SUV traveling south on Route 9, police said.

The driver of the Ford Taurus, 47-year-old Frederick Hochstrasser of Waretown, and the SUV, 79-year-old Andrew Marshall of Barnegat, were not injured.

Ocean Township Patrolman Steve Mandarine is investigating.

Susan Legander, a neighbor who was at the scene, said she couldn't imagine how Harrington's wife would have felt.

"I don't think either of us got any sleep last night," Legander said. "Every time you shut your eyes, all you can see is that horrible accident."

"My prayers go out to his family as well as the families of everyone involved. This was a gruesome horrible accident," Guinta said. "It's horrible to see a man like that."
