Nor'easter hits Long Beach Island area

The "Saturn" Nor'easter pounded away at Long Beach Island, Manahawkin and Barnegat Wednesday, catching many by surprise and causing some flooding in the area.

Bay Avenue was under water, observers say, and there were reports that a barge threatened to take out the west side bridge leading to Long Beach Island.

Sixty-plus-mph winds hit the area. Parking on the northeast side of the causeway bridge was considered a complete hazard. Stafford police had a patrol car watching the area.

"there were reports that a barge threatened to take out the west side bridge leading to Long Beach Island."

What reports? There is NO WAY that small barge could take out the LBI bridge. Somebody at the Patch needs to stop being a drama queen.

Yea look at the pictures Jim D this Bridge would been closed Per Manahawkin Police if it where to hit the Bridge this bridge The bridge would have to be closed for public safety . This bridge is Old and is supported by Pilings That barge and excavator would surly have enough to breach one . not to mention all the diesel fuel that leaking now lucky these things have small tanks ..No ever said the main Bridge

Great video Mr Mangino! Hard to tell from the video, but if you say the waves were 6 feet I believe you. Doesnt say much for mayor Spodoforas claim that Beach Haven West has never seen 3 foot waves! Keep up the good work

Thanks Well in fact what contributed to all the water in BHW was a couple very bad timings senerios . The high tide full moon the shift in the storm and all the bridges being full of debris the water couldnt get threw so it ponded BHW and Tuckerton . Have a huge mess to clean new photos coming up now .
