'This Old House' Featuring Local Sandy Projects

PBS show also featuring Long Beach Island.

An eight-episode series of 'This Old House' focuses on several local homes rebuilding after Hurricane Sandy. The PBS' show will first air in October. PBS announced the show worked on an 1880s Shore Cottage in Bay Head, a 1950s Colonial in Point Pleasant, and a prefabricated new house in Manasquan. Side stories will also feature restoration projects in Mantoloking, Long Beach Island, and Ocean Grove and other local projects along the beach and the bay. Southern Ocean Chamber Invites People To 'Soar, Pour and Roar' This Weekend

Numerous events planned for May 18, 19.

The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce has partnered with local nonprofit groups such as ReClam The Bay, Alliance for a Living Ocean, and Surf Fishing Classic Officials, who will be on hand on May 18 to announce the 59th Annual Tournament and Clean Water Action.   They will also start the day and a summer season May 18 at 11 a.m. on the 17th Street Beach ramp in Ship Bottom. Ocean Professional Theatre Company Gets Ready to Kick Off Season

First performance scheduled for May 14.

Officials with the Ocean Professional Theatre Company have announced their plans for the upcoming season, and noted that tickets are now on sale. The schedule will include:  S’Wonderful-The New Gershwin Musical- An all-singing, all-dancing celebration of the music and lyrics of brothers George and Ira Gershwin. Five mini-musicals take you on a ride to the places, times and styles that made the Gershwin brothers the most successful songwriting team in musical history. This theatre was established as a blatant attempt to do harm to Surflight. They could have opened anywhere in Ocean County yet chose to do so right across the bridge from their former place of employment. They take patrons, groups, and grant money away from Surflight. Barnegat High School Winter Guard Take First Place At Championships

The 16 team members in the Barnegat Winter Guard and their manager made history this past weekend at the Atlantic Coast Championships, clinching first place.

The 16 team members in the Barnegat Winter Guard and their manager made history this past weekend at the Atlantic Coast Championships, clinching first place. The competition began on Friday night, May 3rd with the preliminaries where the team scored an 85.10.  The Semi-Finals, which was held at the Middle Township High School they received an 86.44.  These scores taken together ranked them in first place in the SIG (Scholastic Intermediate Group).   While most of the girls, along with the coaches stayed behind waiting on the scores, four of the team mothers transported seven girls on the team to their junior prom, which was held at the Camden Aquarium.   While the mothers waited for the prom to end at a local Camden eatery, they began to …

Sea Glass Soul – Invisible Colors joins Long Beach Island poet Richard Morgan’s I Am Sea Glass (2011) and Sea Glass People (2012) in time for National Poetry Month this April. Each of the three books combine Morgan’s poetry with paintings by his wife, artist Pat Morgan. In the title poem, ‘Sea Glass Soul,’ Richard Morgan writes, “You might love me less/For I am broken.” The poem goes on to draw parallels between people and sea glass. Both come in varied colors. Both are damaged, worn and mysterious. Life experiences burnish the craggy parts of people the way the ocean polishes sea glass, Mr. Morgan said. Surflight Theatre Set to Start Season April 23

Tickets on sale now, following months of restoration work on the theatre following Sandy.

Surflight Theatre has announced its 2013 Season Opener - Thank You for the Music - A Modern Tribute to ABBA running two weeks from April 23 to May 4.  Opening night is Thursday, April 25 at 8 p.m., and follows months of repair and rebuilding efforts following Sandy, according to theatre spokesperson Charlie Siedenburg. "Work continues on Show Place Ice Cream Parlour, The Marketing/Group Sales/Grapics Office, costume shop and storage. Also, they are nearing completion on the tech department and rooms," Siedenburg told Patch. "This weekend the theater's lobby will be painted, and new carpeting will be laid at a date to be announced. Rock For Sandy This Weekend

Jetty and Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences have announced their second Sandy Relief fundraiser, Rock for Sandy,  to be held at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences on April 13, 2012 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The concert event will feature two, Jetty-supported bands, Almost There & Theodore Lovely, according to a press release.  There are a limited amount of tickets  available, which can only be purchased on the LBI Foundation website . The night will also feature catering by Mud City Crab House (included in ticket price), beer & wine open bar (available for 21+ @ $15/person) and a silent auction. Rock Benefit to Raise Money for Sandy Victims and Nursing Scholarships

Event features live bands and prizes at Jenk's Club, Point Beach, April 21

Nine of the Jersey Shore’s top musicians will come together on April 21 at Jenks Club, Point Beach, to help local victims of Hurricane Sandy and the nurses of Ocean Medical Center. “Rock for the Nurses – Rock for the Shore” will start at 11 a.m. at Jenks Club at Jenkinson's, 300 Ocean Avenue on the boardwalk. Tickets are $30 per person (kids under 12 are free) and are available for advance purchase at Jenks Club, Bow-Kay Florist, Brick, and Ocean Medical Center, Brick. Tickets will also be available for purchase the day of the event at the door. All proceeds from the event will be divided among the Barbara Forfar Nursing Scholarship Fund, which annually benefits the nurses of Ocean Medical Center by providing nursing scholarships to nurses…

Month-Long Pinelands Exhibit Celebrated with Saturday Reception

The "Facets of the Pinelands" exhibit runs through April at Toms River's Ocean County Library branch

As part of a month-long celebration of New Jersey's Pine Barrens in April, Toms River's Ocean County Library branch will host a Pinelands Day event this weekend.  The library is hosting the "Facets of the Pinelands" exhibit presented by the Pinelands Photography Group all month. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, the Friends of the Toms River branch will hold their Pinelands Day celebration, featuring crafts, demonstrations and presentations by county organizations.  A full schedule of Pinelands Day events can be found on the library's website here.
