Musical comedy will begin May 24 and continue through June 16.
The following is a press release submitted to Patch by the Surflight Theatre. Surflight Theatre, under the leadership of Executive Director Ken Myers presents the 1920s musical comedy The Boy Friend, from May 24 through June 16. Sandy Wilson’s 1954 musical comedy, The Boy Friend, is a recipe for gleeful romance: Take a rich young girl, a poor boy who’s employed as a messenger, a group of happy flappers, some well-intentioned adults. Mix carefully with a new romance and a re-kindled one. Add “jazzy” music. Put dreams in the lyrics (“I Could Be Happy with You”) along with exuberance and joy in the dances (“Won’t You Charleston with Me?”). Shake well, and you have Sandy Wilson’s skillfully inventive spoof of 1920s musicals. The Boy …

A three-minute full volume siren will be activated within Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station’s emergency planning zone at 9 a.m., and four times throughout the day on May 29. The sirens will also go off for shorter test periods on May 23 at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and on May 30. The system will sound as a part of Exelon’s comprehensive emergency preparedness program. This test is not a signal to evacuate, according to Barnegat Township Mayor Len Morano, who spoke about the test at the Township Committee meeting last night. "It will sound pretty loud but don't everyone panic when you hear it," Morano said. Southern Ocean Chamber celebrates 100 years.
In 1914 Long Beach Island was enjoying Victorian splendor, with expanding rail service and the opening of the car bridge, large hotels and amenities were ready to serve the finest from Philadelphia, New Jersey and beyond. As businesses expanded to meet the demand, so did the need to establish a business and tourism group to represent them; and thus the Long Beach Island Board of Trade, which later changed its name to the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce was formed. In preparation for the organization's centennial, a 100-year committee was formed last year to commemorate a century of service to the community. Boardwalk area from the Sawmill to Spicey's is reopened to the public.
A cool breeze that kept air temperatures in the low 60s weren't much of a deterrent to the dozens of visitors that stopped by the partially-reopened Seaside Heights boardwalk on Saturday - for what many described as their first glimpse of the rebuild since Sandy. Although the ocean side of the beach remained roped off - and will stay that way for a few more weeks - the boardwalk from the Seaside Park end of the boardwalk near the Sawmill to the area just in front of Spicey Cantina has been reopened to visitors. Many games have been reopened - with the familiar sounds of barkers yelling "win a prize here!" down the boards - and those game stands that haven't yet reopened were under construction Saturday afternoon. Most of the dining …
