Get Buzzed, a barber shop in Lanoka Harbor is asking area residents to "get buzzed for a cause" from May 20, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Many residents from Barnegat and beyond, who had never met Kyle McGetrick, say they were inspired by his life and affected deeply by his death. One such resident is Matt Cox, 18 of Barnegat. Aboout 250 people gathered today at St. Mary's Parish of Barnegat to attend the funeral for Kyle McGetrick, who passed away last week at the age of 12. Kyle was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of five, seven years ago. The procession slowly made its way down West Bay Avenue with the casket resting atop of a Barnegat Fire Department engine. The township of Barnegat is making preparations for the funeral of one of its most beloved residents this week. Possibly close to 1,000 people, young and old, but mostly young, turned up for a candlelight vigil for Kyle McGetrick, 12, who passed away last week, after a seven-year battle with leukemia. After battling with cancer for seven years, 12-year-old Kyle McGetrick of Barnegat died Tuesday at 1 p.m. During his battle, which the doctors did not foresee would last as long as it had, his family said, McGetrick had inspired his entire town with his strength and courage. Barnegat's entire community showed support, as Kyle's terminal disease slowly consumed him. A Ride for Kyle, a motorcycle brigade to show support for a township boy who is suffering from Leukemia, will take place Saturday morning.
