OPINION: Loss of Revenue At Barnegat Dock

Several cogent points were mentioned during the last township meeting in reference to abuses at the dock.

First Waretown residents living in pebble beach area with Barnegat addresses are being charged resident fees. Secondly, season stickers are either placed on trailers or even kept in the  vehicle thus permitting the sticker to either be passed around or multiple boats to be launched from the same trailer.

Thirdly, local boat haulers are being charged resident fees when an ordinance states that all boat haulers should be charged non-resident fees. This has resulted in a lost of revenue of many thousands of dollars over the years.

Additionally this year  the dock, for the first time in my memory,  is open weekdays in April. The only revenue being generated is season ticket sales which may be purchased during weekends or in May, etc.

This is another loss of revenue with 15 hours of pay to the dock masters and maintenance person, as well as whatever supervisory time is being charged. Last year, I visited the dock quite often and observed people not paying because they were friends of the head dock master.

Can I be granted this privilege? The township through the dock master donation program asked for contributions in order to defray rebuilding costs.

Well, put an end to these practices which cause a loss of revenue and maybe over time you will be able to pay the cost of rebuilding the dock.

I feel  slighted because I was foolish enough to donate a bench while all the time the township permitted a large loss of revenue to occur. Perhaps it's time to change  dock masters and put someone in charge who really has the best  interest of the twp. at heart!
