Spray Beach Yacht Club Safety, Rescue & Patrol Training

This past Saturday, over 30 members participated in Spray Beach Yacht Club's annual On-the-Water Safety, Rescue & Support training.  The US Sailing-based training is conducted in support of SBYC Senior Sailing racing events.  After a short dry land briefing of basic boat safety and rescue concepts, trainers then familiarized participants with the equipment and operation of the club motor boats.  Participants practiced on-the-water skills by responding to numerous man-overboard and distressed sailor calls from the six volunteer sailboats out in the open bay whose boats were either capsized or needed to be towed in.  Participants were then trained on the water to set a sailing race course, use flags to communicate, and the proper means to provide Safety and Patrol support during races.
