Ash Wednesday Services Planned in Area

Wednesday, Feb. 13, is Ash Wednesday this year.

Ash Wednesday services will take place throughout the area today.

The tradition, which begins the season of Lent for Christians, dates back to Biblical times. The faithful are marked with black ashes on their foreheads, which symbolizes human mortality and repentance to God.

Ash Wednesday services are scheduled for the St. Francis of Assisi Parish (with services in Surf City):

7:30 a.m. Ash Wednesday Prayer Service
9:00 a.m. Mass
12:00 p.m. Ash Wednesday Prayer Service
5:00 p.m. Prayer Service (with children)

Ashes will be distributed at 3:00 p.m. during the Liturgy of  the Word (No Mass) in both Churches and then  continuously until 5:00 p.m. Please note that we will
stop in time to prepare for the 5:00pm Mass in St. Mary  of the Pines.
