Coming Home - Osprey Return To Island Beach State Park

They're coming home! The New Jersey Osprey Project says the adult male in the nest next to the Interpretive Center at Island Beach State Park has returned.

"The adult male returned to the road nest at IBSP yesterday. We can ID him by the plumage on his head, which I've heard is like a fingerprint.

Now, if someone has photos from last year, please post in the comments so we can determine if it's the same bird."

Last year was a good year for the osprey parents who made their home on the nest next to the center. Four fledglings emerged from the eggs and all four survived.

The birds have typically returned to Island Beach in late March, after spending the winter in South America.
