Duty Calls: The Claus' Tour of Barnegat Cut Short For Some Due to Fire

St. Nick and Mrs. Claus were escorted around the township during the past few weekends by Barnegat Fire Company, Station 11.

Some members of the Barnegat Fire Company Station 11 had to cut short their escort of Santa and Mrs. Claus last night, because their fire truck was needed on the scene of a fire at 17 Schooner Avenue.

Fire Company President Gary Brown told Patch the company were just about finishing up their last tour of the township with the famous couple, just before 8 p.m. when a call came in for a fire in the garage area of a house at that location.

Although he said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, he said it was believed to have started in the garbage. Brown said the fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries.

"Santa continued with the rest of his route, but we had a response truck that was escorting him that was diverted. On every run, we had a response truck with people who had gear on, just in case something like this happened," Brown said, who added the company's newest truck (pictured above) was used to respond.

During the Clauses' first tour of the township two weekends ago, Township Committeeman Len Morano noted children lined up to see and get photos with the famous couple.
