Stranding Center Rescues Seal on LBI

Seal transported to Marine Mammal Stranding Center

A gray seal was found underweight with some minor abrasions on a Long Beach Island beach, reports the Marine Mammal Stranding Center on its Facebook page.

"The male gray seal in LBI was examined by our veterinarian, who diagnosed him as being underweight," the center's Facebook page says. "He also has a few minor abrasions. The seal was brought back to the MMSC for rehabilitation. Check back for updates on his progress."

The report did not say where on LBI the seal was found, but the center's officials regularly warn Jersey Shore residents and visitors to stay away from seals, other marine mammals and turtles on or near the shore. The stranding center, which is based in Brigantine, just outside of Atlantic City,  also posted on its Facebook page news about a Florida man who was arrested after posting photos of himself holding a manatee.
