What's Happening This Weekend

Fun diversions, good causes: here's a roundup of events going on Saturday and Sunday

It may not officially be summer yet, but you'd never guess it by the weather – or the great lineup of fun outdoor events scheduled for this weekend. Check out what's happening in town and beyond.

  • Grab the kids, fishing poles and crab traps and head to the municipal dock, 411 E. Bay Ave., Saturday morning for the Recreation Department’s . The free event features prizes and fun for kids of all ages. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.
  • Looking for an educational outing? Island Beach State Park is holding a event, where kids ages 7 and up and their families can learn about local bird species and their fascinating adaptations. The free event runs from 9 to 11 a.m.
  • Search for one-of-a-kind artistic treasures Saturday and Sunday at the , held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days at the Ethel Jacobson fields in Ship Bottom. This highly-rated outdoor arts and crafts event will feature about 100 artisans from around the country, who will present everything from sculptures and jewelry to glass and fiber arts.
  • There’s more fun in the sun to be had Saturday at at 68th Street and Long Beach Boulevard in Brant Beach. The outdoor event will raise money for Southern Ocean Medical Center’s new emergency department. There will be kids amusements, a bounce house and seven live bands. The event will be held rain or shine from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. 
  • Thinking of having dinner out Saturday? Put your dining dollars to good use and stop by the Barnegat Township Firehouse, 11 Birdsall Street, for the Barnegat Volunteer Fire Company’s . The event will raise money for a 11-year-old Kyle McGetrick, who has been fighting cancer since age 5. Dinner includes roast beef, potatoes, vegetables, salad, dessert and beverages. Cost is $12 for adults and $5 for kids; takeout is available.
