With Easter over and oil prices dropping, you'd think we could catch a break at the pump this week, but the numbers don’t lie. The national average for Friday, May 6, according to AAA, rose to $3.98 (from $3.90) for regular, $4.12 (from $4.04) for midgrade and $4.25 (from $4.17) for premium.
Barnegat residents are catching up to others around the country when it comes to gas prices. As predicted last week, with midgrade approaching the $4.00 dollar mark, regular is on a similar path, and with the way things are going we should expect to see it hit the $4 dollar mark sometime in the next two weeks.
Looking back a year ago, the national average was around $2.90 for a gallon of regular; that’s well over a dollar in one year.

If you’re buying gas in Barnegat this weekend, expect to pay an average of around $3.90 for regular and $4.15 for premium.
The best price in Barnegat can be found at the Bay Avenue Wawa with regular at $3.85; The Bay Avenue Lukoil is high at $3.92 for regular. Your best bet is sticking with Wawa. Riggins on Main Street is somewhere in the middle with regular at $3.89.
If you’re in the Lacey/Forked River expect to pay around $3.89 for regular, around the same as Barnegat, but a little higher than Manahawkin. The Garden State Service Center, with regular at $3.79 per gallon is a good deal, but only if you’re on the Parkway. The Manahawkin area is averaging around the same as the Barnegat, Waretown and Lacey, so no need to out of you way.
