Surflight Theatre continues its 2012 season with Neil Simon’s Tony-winning romantic comedy Barefoot in the Park, running October 24 – November 4.
The Surflight production is directed by Thomas Caruso (Southern Comfort at NAMT and CAP 21), and stars Caroline Hewitt (Corie Bratter) and Joe Tuttle (Paul Bratter), with Barbara McCulloh (Mrs. Banks), Andy Prosky (Victor Velasco), William Gilinsky (Delivery Man) and Andy Arkema (Telephone Repair Man).
Neil Simon’s Barefoot in the Park is about those first days of marriage. It's 1964, and newlyweds Paul and Corie Bratter are just starting their life together in a tiny, fifth floor East 48th Street walkup.
He's a straight-as-an-arrow lawyer and she's a free spirit always looking for the latest kick. On moving into their new apartment, the newlyweds are invaded by Corie's interfering mother as well as an aging lothario neighbor-in-the-attic. Don't miss this sparkling, romantic comedy from America’s master of comedy.
The original production, which received an out of town tryout under the title Nobody Loves Me at the Bucks County Playhouse, opened on Broadway as Barefoot in the Park on October 23, 1963 at the Biltmore Theatre, and starred Elizabeth Ashley and Robert Redford for a long run of 1,530 performances, winning a 1964 Tony Award for Best Director, Mike Nichols. A 1967 film that paired Redford with Jane Fonda then followed; it was directed by Mike Nichols.
Following Neil Simon’s Barefoot in the Park, get ready for Irving Berlin’s White Christmas (November 23 – December 21).
