Film Screening: "Gasland"

The Barnegat Democratic Club is hosting a free screening of the film Gasland, an award-winning 2010 documentary examines the health and environmental dangers of the nation's rush to drill for natural gas.

The director, Josh Fox, lives in northeastern Pennsylvania above the vast Marcellus Shale formation, which has been in the news in the last few years as energy companies have rushed to sink wells employing the controversial technique of hyrdralic fracturing, or "fracking." The process requires millions of gallons of water and chemicals to be pumped underground to extract natural gas trapped in the shale.

The screening is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26 at the Barnegat Recreation Center behind town hall. Light refreshments will be served, including popcorn. Please call Marianne Clemente at 609-698-6599 or Rose Jackson at 609-698-8803 to RSVP.
