Benefit for retired Detective and Beach Haven West resident

Jimmy O'Shaughnessy served the people of New York for over 20 years as a police officer and a detective. He has for many years owned a home in the Beach Haven West section. His home sustained terrible damage during Super Storm Sandy. Last July 15th he was in the rear of his home and fell from the dock area into the water. He struck his head on the bottom with such force that he suffered a severe spinal injury. Since that time he has been paralyzed from the neck down. He has undergone additional medical problems since he was further diagnosed as having a cancerous tumor on his kidney. He needed his kidney removed as well. Since Jimmy was an active detective on the NYPD and responded to Ground Zero on 9/11, it is believed that this cancerous tumor on his kidney may very well be related to his service at that time.

Jimmy has had to make what was his summer home his regular residence since he is confined to a wheelchair. He needs 24/7 care. He has had to purchase a wheelchair lift van and a motorized wheelchair. His home still needs to be completely gutted and re-built. Rehabilitation and physical therapy have allowed him to regain some movement but he has a long, hard battle in front of him. His medical expenses are astronomical and mounting.

Many of Jimmy O's fellow officers are holding a 10-13 Benefit for him on April 12th in his hometown of Queens, New York. Anyone who is interested in attending may contact those listed on the attached flier. Also if you wish to DONATE, please feel free to do so. Any monetary donation will be accepted and can be made by check as indicated on the flier as well.

Anyone who ever met Jimmy O knows he was the first to run for anyone who needed help. He needs all of our help now. Please help this fine man with the toughest battle of his life.
