Helping Your Kids Believe & Achieve

Reading, writing, and…burpees?

At Ares Athletic Club – home of CrossFit A-Game in Manahawkin (on Rt. 9 across from Southern Regional High School), CrossFit Kids Certified Coach Viktoria O’Hara and New Jersey State Certified Teacher Lisa Stickel are inviting children across southern Ocean County to join them for a fun and spirit-filled week for Believe & Achieve Kids Camp April 14 to 18. (Click here for camp details).

Now, we know what you may be thinking. You may have heard through the grapevine or rumor mill that CrossFit and its more adult members are crazy and cult-like. It’s simply untrue. In fact, CrossFit Kids is not simply a scaled down version of the adult brand, but rather its own entity that is designed specifically for children and their own developmental (neurologic, cognitive and motor) needs. Rest assured if your child is not the starter on the team or an all-star athlete, our workouts are geared so everyone actively participates at all times at their own level and pace. The kids often have so much fun they don’t even realize they’re working out!

Don’t believe us? We would love to have you and your family visit us and watch one of our CrossFit A-Game Kids classes. We invite you to view our weekly schedule here.

In addition to workout programming by our awesome coach Miss Viktoria, children who attend our Believe & Achieve Camp will also have supervised time to read and complete school assignments with Miss Lisa, in addition to participating in other educational crafts and activities.

So, you may wonder why we care so much at CrossFit A-Game? For starters, we’re a family here.

We also care about the amount of exercise your children may be deprived of due to budget constraints in our school districts. We care because we have also witnessed the results of the decreased amount of time children spend outside with their friends (due to safety concerns or other reasons) to run and play. Conversely, as children’s physical activity has decreased drastically, the percentage of childhood obesity has increased by more than 200 percent over those same 30 years.

We think that’s an alarming statistic.

While it may be important to note that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) notes that childhood obesity has more than doubled over the past 30 years (CDC Youth Obesity Facts), we believe it’s even more critical about what they have to say about the influence of exercise on children in their formative years.

The CDC states, “…physical activity can have an impact on cognitive skills and attitudes and academic behavior, all of which are important components of improved academic performance. These include enhanced concentration and attention as well as improved classroom behavior.”

Even First Lady Michelle Obama has gotten on board through her Let’s Move Campaign.

While we may be unable to help all of the approximate 75 million children that currently live in the United States, we can help at least one. We can help yours.

We can help yours Believe & Achieve.
