Oyster Creek To Hold Community Information Night

Informational meeting to be held Wednesday is open to the public

Oyster Creek Generating Station will be holding a Community Information Night on Wednesday, May 11 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the nuclear plant’s education center on Intake View Lane in Forked River.

The informational meeting will be interactive, as the public will have the opportunity to speak directly with those who operate, maintain, and support the plant, which is owned by Exelon Corporation.

“Exelon Nuclear has always been committed to being a good neighbor. It is our responsibility to listen to our neighbors’ concerns, answer their questions and give them a greater understanding of the day-to-day operations of Oyster Creek. Community Information Night gives us a perfect venue to do just that,” said Oyster Creek Site Vice President Mike Massaro.

The event is being held just days after environmental organizations held a protest against the plant.

The protest was organized by Greenpeace New Jersey and called for the plants immediate closure due to degradation. The protesters, which consisted of various environmental groups, also asked for a decrease in the density of fuel pools and to secure the spent fuel in hardened onsite storage.

Oyster Creek is the oldest operating nuclear plant in the country. It has the capacity to supply electricity to 600,000 homes and brings in $96 million to the state’s economy through plant workers payrolls.
