Showing Your Support during Military Appreciation Month

May is Military Apprection Month. Here's a great way for you to say thanks!

May 1st kicks off the 15th year of Military Appreciation Month.

National Military Appreciation Month for 2013 includes Loyalty Day (1st), VE Day (8th),
Military Spouse Appreciation Day (10th), Armed Forces Day (18th), and Memorial
Day (30th). This very important month honors, remembers, recognizes and
appreciates all military personnel; those men and women who have served
throughout our history and all who now serve in uniform. Also recognized are those
Americans who have given their lives in defense of the freedoms we all enjoy
today.

It recognizes those on active duty in all branches of the services, the National Guard and Reserves
plus retirees, veterans, and all of their families - well over 90 million
Americans and more than 230 years of our nation’s history.

The Walters Group in Barnegat is an official drop off location for Operation Open Arms.

A.R.M.S. (American Recreational Military Services)  not only collects and sends
care packages to our troops as a fundamental part of their mission, but
provides critical help and humanitarian aid to military families and veterans
in distress as well.

The Walters Group is always collecting at their corporate office, as you might have noticed by the daily
M-F 8:00 AM reminder on the Patch.  In recognition of Military Appreciation Month, the company does a focused campaign,
reaching out to as many as they can to get the word out as to the needs of
A.R.M.S.

Flip Flops for Soldiers

In addition to the regular needs list, we have learned that. A.R.M.S.
(along with several troop support groups) has received a specific request for
flip flops. While we at the Jersey Shore are preparing to flip flop our way to the beach, our troops need them as shower shoes.
A Chaplain at Wings of Hope Chapel at Manas Transit Centerin Kyrgyzstan
reported they could really use large size flip flops for men and women
transitioning through the Center.  Troops often are without them, and must walk back and forth to the latrine/showers in
their combat boots (which are usually dusty, dirty, or muddy).

Most Needed Items We are hoping some youth and community groups decide to make this their mission for May and do a collection.  All collections can be dropped off at 500 Barnegat Blvd North,
Building #100.  Generosity in batches of big and small are appreciated, so individuals are encouraged to drop off
donations as well. In addition to flip flops, please check the most needed items list HERE or email CFLEMING@walters-group.com and request a copy of it.

For additional info, or to schedule a drop off email CFLEMING@walters-group.com or call 609-607-9500 x 127.
