WHAT WE'RE WORKING ON:

This morning, we're bringing you details on this weekend's Clean Ocean Action Beach Sweeps this morning, as well as a wrap on local efforts to help out with the DEP's Barnegat Bay Blitz trash pickup – volunteer cleanups are the theme of the week, it seems.

We've also got a story on Barnegat's and Southern Regional's cross-country teams' chances at the Ocean County Cross Country Championships, scheduled for this afternoon at Ocean County Park in Lakewood.

And we'll also have the latest details on the Oct. 27 candidates' debate ASAP.

EVENTS AND REMINDERS:

• Hydrant flushing is scheduled to continue today in the Downtown, Timbers, Montara, Deer Chase and Rosehill Manor neighborhoods.

• The free "NAMI Basics" course at the Stafford Library,129 N. Main St., Manahawkin, continues at 6:15 today. The National Alliance on Mental Illness hosts the workshop for caregivers of kids with mental illness. The course is taught by trained instructors and details how to care for and help both the affected child and the family.
