Dolphin Found In Waretown?

Greg Signore likes to call his 13-year-old son "turtle man" because he likes to jump out of his boat, go down low in the water and look for stuff they could stuff in a box or bucket.

What they found on Sunday, in the Pebble Beach area of Waretown, was too big for their own car. Nor was it was something they could even touch.

Signore and his son, Paul, photographed a dolphin-like carcass that appeared in the swampy seashore, where they were operating a boat.

"I've been here for 20 years and I've never seen anything like that," said Signore, a Barnegat resident.

He said the dolphin appeared to be "burnt" and was not breathing. He reported the incident to a nearby program in which college students study sealife in the area, but he hasn't heard back.

"I'm surprised I haven't seen it any local newspapers," he said.

He said he was considering reporting the incident to the Marine Mamma Stranding Center, but he wasn't sure if this is a case that the Brigantine facility would cover.
