Find Local Produce and More at Shore Farmers' Markets

It's Farmers' Market Week in New Jersey, and with a bounty of local community markets, it's easy to join the celebration

It's Farmers' Market Week in New Jersey, and the state Department of Agriculture is encouraging residents to buy local.

There are plenty of opportunities to snap up fresh Jersey produce at local farmers' markets along the Shore, many of which offer much more than fruits and veggies. Some have extended seasons and will be set up weekly through October or later; others are wrapping up at the end of this month.

Ocean County:

Barnegat Farmers’ Market

  • East Bay Avenue and Route 9, Barnegat, in the Barnegat municipal lot
  • Thursdays, noon to 5 p.m.
  • Come for fruits and vegetables from local farms and other parts of the U.S., plus flowers and plants, gourmet olive oil, honey, popcorn, bread and more. The weekly market continues through Sept. 1.

Jersey Fresh Farmers’ Market

  • Route 9 and Lacey Road, Forked River, in the Community Hall parking lot
  • Fridays, noon to 5 p.m.
  • Come for fresh fruits and veggies, including corn, plus fresh Italian bread, through Sept. 16.

Manahawkin Flea and Farmers’ Market

  • 657 E. Bay Ave., Manahawkin
  • Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Fresh produce is on offer through September at this weekend-long market.

Point Pleasant Beach Farmers’ Market           

  • Route 35 N. and Arnold Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach, in the NJ Transit parking lot
  • Sundays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • In addition to veggies, the market has honey, baked goods, herbs, pickles and prepared foods, and will be open through Sept. 11.

Seaside Park Farmers’ Market

  • J Street and Central Avenue, Seaside Park, at Seaside Park Marina Field
  • Mondays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • This community market has produce, nuts, pickles, baked goods, honey and Italian bread. The last market day is Oct. 16.

St. Paul’s Farmers Market

  • Route 9 and Route 166, Beachwood, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church
  • Tuesdays, 1 to 7 p.m.
  • Shop for a variety of fruits and vegetables through Oct. 26.

Toms River Farmers’ Market

  • Main Street and E. Water Street, Toms River, at Huddy Park
  • Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • This diverse market carries produce as well as plants, fresh seafood and chowder, honey, pickles, olives, balsamic vinegars and oils, nuts and candy, cheeses and pastas. Come through Oct. 26.

Waretown Farmers’ Market

  • Wells Mills Road, Waretown, at Waretown Lake and Park
  • Tuesdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Produce, flowers and crafts are available here through Oct. 18.
Monmouth County:

Belmar Farmers’ Market

  • Main and 9th streets, Belmar, at Pyanoe Plaza
  • Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Belmar’s market includes vendors peddling plants, flowers, teas, honey, cheese, and other specialty items in addition to produce. The market is wrapping up this month – it ends Aug. 28.

Giamano’s Farmers’ Market

  • 301 Main St., Bradley Beach, at the corner of Main St. and 3rd Avenue.
  • Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • This Bradley market, which offers fresh fruits and vegetables, runs through mid-October.

Manasquan Farmers’ Market

  • Miller Preston Way, Manasquan, next to Rite Aide
  • Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • The weekly Squan market has produce from local farms, plants from nearby garden centers, and wraps up for the season on Sept. 1.

West End Farmers’ Market

  • 139 Brighton Ave., Long Branch, across from Jessie’s Café
  • Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Flowers, cheese, bread, cakes, honey, pickles, soups and salsas join produce among the offers in Long Branch. The market runs weekly through Nov. 17.
