GALLERY: High Temperatures Send Small Spring Crowd to the Beach

Wind and cooler air near the ocean sent some would-be sunbathers right back earlier today, however.

Higher than seasonable temperatures this week are sending residents and visitors to the beaches early.

But while some are sunbathing by the shore, others are running back into their cars, shivering. The temperatures on the mainland are expected to hit 80s today and tomorrow, and the wind can barely be felt. On Long Beach Island, however, the winds are stronger, and air cooler, which seemed to take some would-be sunbathers by surprise in Ship Bottom today.

"We brought lunch with us, but we didn't need it," said Jack Sheerin, 65, of Manahawkin. "We're going back. The wind is cold out there in the open air."

"We stayed for about two minutes," said Sheerin's wife Maureen, 60. "It's freezing."

Dozens of others, however, could be seen strolling by the water or sleeping under the sun.

"We're here for the view," said Nancy Malcolm, 60, who once lived in the area and is now visiting her daughter from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
