Bail set at $30,000 for forgery.

Barnegat police have charged a man with forgery and theft by deception after he tried to use "several" bogus $20 bills to pay for merchandise at the local Wawa convenience stores.

Twenty-eight-year-old Ryan Thau was charged on June 29 at 12:43 a.m. with using counterfeit bills at the Wawa stores on both West Bay Avenue and Route 9 in Barnegat, according to Lieutenant Keith Germain. Patrolman Richard Crane was the arresting officer.

Thau was charged with six counts of third degree forgery and one count of theft by deception. As of last night, Thau was being held in Ocean County Jail in default of $30,000 bail for the forgery charge, $1,000 bail for failure to pay child support, and $350 for driving on a revoked license.
