Man Returned Safely After Reported Possibly Missing at Sea

Long Beach Island rescue units band together for search

A 78-year-old man was home safely Monday night, after family members reported he had taken a 1992 Yamaha jet ski out around 6 p.m. and did not return home by nightfall.

Barnegat Light Coast Guard Seaman Daniel Swerdlow said that the Coast Guard had already been conducting a training exercise offshore Monday night when they recieved a report from Ship Bottom police about the possible missing person.

The man, who was not initially identified, was discovered soon after the first report, and "was returned home safely" by a "good Samaritan," Swerdlow said.
