Remembering the 2010 Blizzard

Looking back at photos from the post-Christmas whiteout last year

A year ago today, Barnegat was still digging out in the wake of a monster winter storm that blanketed the Shore area with as much as three feet of snow. The blizzard closed some Ocean County roads for up to a week, crippled daily operations of municipalities all over the state and required FEMA aid for cleanup. The tab for Barnegat .

It was also a major test for newborn Barnegat Patch, which launched Dec. 29 amid the mayhem of snow clearing and widespread cancellations. I remember making it home to Barnegat after Christmas celebrations with family as the first flakes fell, and watching as police reports filled my email inbox with horror stories from the state's highways: disabled NJ Transit buses filled with desperate travelers stuck on the Turnpike; people fearing hypothermia calling from cars stuck on the Garden State Parkway.

We certainly had plenty to write about that first week.

Here's a gallery of Patch photos from the landmark storm, taken here in Barnegat and around the Shore, as well as a time-lapse video taken by a Belmar resident that went viral in the wake of the blizzard. Add your own pictures to the gallery and reminisce.
