Family-friendly ideas for next week.

Need ideas for things to do with the kids during their spring recess next week? Want to get out of Dodge without spending much? Check out our roundup of activities and family field trip ideas.

  • Bunny breakfast at the rec center. Kids and families can enjoy a from Lefty’s at the starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 16. Tickets are $6 for adults, $8 for kids and $4 for young ones under 24 months.  Heads up: call the rec department today to get tickets if you want to attend; no tickets will be available at the door.
  • Family show at STAC. See the beloved at the Stafford Township Arts Center. Show is at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 16. 
  • Hippo Party. Up for a field trip? Head to the Camden Adventure Aquarium any time between Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, May 1 for a . Button, a Nile hippo, is turning 12, and the aquarium is pulling out the stops with live music and kid-friendly fun every day for the rest of April. Lucky hippo.
  • Boardwalk Fun. Jenkinson's Boardwalk Amusement Piers in Point Pleasant Beach will now be open for the season, weather permitting. Limited rides are operating from noon to 6 p.m., amusement areas are open on weekend/holiday schedule. Come for a Sunday, April 17 Easter egg hunt. Check out the details at www.jenkinsons.com.
  • LBI Amusements. Speaking of rides and games, Fantasy Island in Beach Haven is open for an extra-long week from Saturday, April 16 to Monday, April 25. You can also stock up on tokens for the summer at a reduced rate. Learn more at www.fantasyislandpark.com.
  • Fish Fry. Head to the Manahawkin Elks lodge, 520 Hilliard Blvd., Stafford, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 22 for a favorite seasonal event benefitting Camp Moore, a summer camp for special needs kids. For more info, call 609-597-1107 or visit www.manahawkinelks.org.
  • Go Camping! Bass River State Forest has 176 camp sites that are open all year, not to mention great hiking trails. Tenting not your thing? Check out the shelters there, from lean-tos with wood-burning stoves to lakefront cabins. You can also check out the accommodations at Wall’s Allaire State Park and Sandy Hook.
